The program in the City of Brighton is one of only 120 in our state. Yard Waste is collected and shipped to Tuthill Farms Composting (located between Brighton and Whitmore Lake) to be composted.
When composted, it:
-Provides nutrients to the soil,
-Increases beneficial soil organisms (e.g., worms and centipedes),
-Suppresses plant diseases reducing the need for fertilizers and pesticides,
-Protects soil from erosion,
-Assists pollution remediation.
